Role of Media in School Children Education Essay Media is invading our personal lives with the scale and power given to those who are involved in the activities related to this mass information provider. When you can make a choice, you are free to control what data or information you believe in and how you can use it for your own purposes. In some situations and for some people, however, the choice is not that simple and preliminary knowledge is not extensive enough to make right and logical conclusions. When I say this, I mean the choice and conclusions that kids make from the media programs and information that it provides them with. In modern society with, to some extent, excessive information supply, information filters and control becomes an important and difficult challenge for individuals as well as social cells of the communities. It is a privilege of families to enable access of children to the information that will influence their development positively. On the other hand, it is a joint responsibility of parents and society to limit and reduce negative effects that the same media sources have on the young and developing minds of the school-aged children. Lack of personal experience and knowledge make children absorb and generalize information they receive from their closest relatives and social environment, and in case they do not have examples for particular behavior patterns around them, they will start searching for them in other sources, such as media. If cruelty and violence are exposed through media channels, it can obviously create very negative effect on children. It is extremely difficult to agree on the level and degree to which media is solely responsible for these consequences. The level of responsibility should be shared with family and society in order to achieve the equilibrium point. It is, thus, important that both sides are held responsible and are clearly aware of the consequences that â€Å"wrong† information can have in a long run.

Early History of the Pipe Organ The â€Å"king of instruments† has a long history, one which can arguably be traced to the concept of a collection of â€Å"fixed-pitched pipes blown by a single player (such as the panpipes)† (Randel 583). The first examples of pipe organs with the basic features of today can be traced to the third century B.C.E. in the Greco-Roman arena; it is said to have been invented by Ktesibios of Alexander and contained â€Å"a mechanism to supply air under pressure, a wind-chest to store and distribute it, keys and valves to admit wind to the pipes, and one or more graded sets of fixed-pitch pipes.† (Randel 583) These early organs used water as a means to supply air-pressure, hence the use of the terms hydraulic and hydraulis. Hydraulic organs were in use for several hundred years before the concept of bellows, similar in concept and style to those of a blacksmith, came into use with the organ. Numerous bellows were used to supply air to the wind-chest, often being pumped in pairs by men. The disadvantages of this method of air supply include the lack of consistent pressure, which leads to inconsistent pitch and tuning; also, many people were required to operate the bellows since there were upwards of twenty-four bellows per organ (Hopkins & Rimbault 35). Also, with organs of this size, the bellows took up large amounts of space, thus forcing the organ to be located in a fixed place, such as a church. Up until the eleventh century (approximately), pitch and range of organs were extremely limited, mainly in part to the lack of a any style of keyboard. Keys of a sort were introduced around this time, though not in the manner we are accustomed to. â€Å"The earliest keyboards were sets of levers played by the hands rather than the fingers.† (Randel 428) They looked similar to large rectangles â€Å" an ell long and three inches wide† (Hopkins & Rimbault 33) and were played by pushing on them with a hand, although some were large enough that one might need to step on them. While allowing no real technical dexterity, they were sufficient to play plain-song and chant melodies, particularly with the use of more than one player. As time progressed, the keys became smaller and more numerous until they began to resemble the modern keyboard (except for range) in appearance ca. 1400. While these large early organs were used in limited fashion in churches, many of the organs of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries were known as portatives or regals. â€Å"Tuesday with Morris† Is structured at first. Like a school's hand book, then It changes to a diary. Unlike the fiction work, chapters are not labeled one, two, three, and four. Instead, the first chapter was called â€Å"The Syllabus† which is an introduction to Morris, the author's college professor, a significance figure in this book. The second chapter was called â€Å"The Student†, the chapter title refers to the author, who is the student of Morris's.It continues as â€Å"The Orientation† â€Å"The Classroom† â€Å"Taking Attendance†, these chapters tells us about the life of the author after the last time he'd seen Morris (after the author graduated). The author would insert a short conversation in italic text at the end of each chapter about the past conversation he used to have with Morris while he was a college student. The chapter changed into a diary structure after the author met Morris accidentally. He had learn that Morris was dying from a disease called SSL.The author started seeing Morris every Tuesday and he wrote down what they had converse about: â€Å"The First Tuesday We Talk About the World†. The Second Tuesday We Talk About Feeling Sorry for Yourself† and so on†¦ The author's tone was as calm as his dying teacher. The content of the book itself is already interesting. The reader wants to know why and how Morris could stay so positively happy and serene while the disease is making him unable to wipe his behind. It differs from fiction novel because we already know the ending (Morris is going to die) but we still keep on reading.Annie,2 Is the writer trying to elicit a certain response from the reader? Place this memoir in a cultural context and examine the social issues the author offers commentary on, either directly or indirectly. What argument is the writer making? Has this reading altered or enhanced your view of any particular social Issues? The social/culture issue is presented very clearly in this book. Morris and Album (the author) had had diverse discussions about life and the society they were living in. Album is trying to make us question ourselves: what we really need and what is the meaning of our life.Morris said that we all are so busy with our lives we forget what's really the important part of It. For example, the society is brainwashed by having the Idea In their head that owning things Is good. More money, more property, more otherwise, they have no perspective of what is really important anymore. People who goes around keep buying things and boasting around, Morris takes them as people who are â€Å"so hungry for love that they were accepting substitutes†(125,Album). But not money nor power can be substitute for tender and care.People are lost with their own meaning of life they are depending that on the society. They don't cry because the society says it's not okay to be weak, and they feel ashamed because the society makes them feel ashamed. People haven't found their meaning of lives, that's why hey keep running. The next car, the next house, the next Job, then it empties and they have to keep on running. They forget to be present of the actual purpose of being: a meeting with a lost friend but they're thinking about their work, or someone coming for an advice and after listening to them they go â€Å"Uh-huh†.The writer is trying to tell us that the society is lacking love, and not a lot of people had found their meaning of life, until they do, they will stop chasing things and finally be happy with the present. After reading this book, it had effect on me and enhanced my view of his social issue more. I now understood more to issue of why people act in such ways. Annie,3 Explore techniques the writer utilizes in developing character throughout the text. Include discussion of a memorable scene in the book that reveals character and explore how this scene relates to the whole of the text.Album' s technique of developing character is to mention us the same thing every chapter: emphasizing Morris's sick condition. Since the first day they had met accidentally and through out every Tuesday Album had met with Morris, he will always emphasize Morris's SSL condition. The day Album accidentally met his teacher; he was embarrassed to see him and actually bending down to hide. The first Tuesday, Album describes to us how bad Morris's condition was, and it got worst after many Tuesdays. Not only Morris's condition was mentioned, but Album's feelings toward it were also there.On the Eleventh Tuesday, we could see how Morris had affect Album deeply: â€Å"Morris's physical therapist had come earlier in the day, and I usually excused myself when nurses or specialists had business with him. But as the weeks passed and our time ran down, I was increasingly less self-conscious about he physical embarrassment. I wanted to be there. I wanted to observe everything. This was not like me, but then, neither were a lot of things that had happened these last few months in Morris's house† (1 53, Album). He was telling us that he had developed through out the book.The change of Album's thoughts toward Morris's condition is a clear character development. This scene shows us a new kind guy, not embarrassed by anything, which differs from the guy we first met in the start of the book. Morris had changed him and his view on many things. Album was actually impairing his present self to his previous self by saying â€Å"this was not like me†. Album was very successful in using the control group (Morris's condition) and giving us his feelings towards it so we could see the change happening inside him, a brilliant character development technique.Discuss how the writer's experiences have affected and shaped her/his views. Album had his first encounter with death, not with Morris, but via his favorite uncle. His uncle, as he describe, is a very important person in his lif e. His uncle died from a heart attack and it said to have changed Album entirely. He stopped writing songs, stopped dreaming of becoming a musician, stopped going to parties and turned to school instead. He earned a Counselors degree and took the first Job offer: sports writer.He ended up being someone he didn't want to be, a person who's writing about other people's dreams instead of chasing his own. He lived a lonely life, and said his friends he knew in college had lost touch with him. His Jobs gets better, though, earning more salary and he starts owning things. He got a wife, but never had a family. He buried himself in accomplishments, because he believed that he loud control things and could squeeze every bit of happiness out before he died like his uncle. His life stayed busy that way until he was reminded of Morris.Album's life seems to be normal like everyone else, busy. He was the person who Morris had talk about; rushing to find their meaning of life. Album was walking r ight pass his true happiness, as what Morris had pointed out. He never saw the world in Morris's point of view. He had embrace his uncle's death as something totally miserable where else Morris accepted it welcome. It was because of the hardliner Album had had, and Morris pointing loving things out to him;how things he view as â€Å"happiness† turns out to be fake (his mansion, the society he lives in, his Job) and him taking things as granted (his wife).Morris had changed his perspective in a positive way. Annie,5 Memoirs, in some way, typically contain coming of age stories addressing the quest to discover or define a person. Elements may include family, friendship, community, home, culture, values, education, rebellion, travel, politics†¦ What does â€Å"coming of age† mean to your author? At first, Album's quest of his life is to be happy with the life he was living. Making lots of money, work hard on his Journalism Job; try to get wealthier and wealthier. Mor ris, however, had changed his point of view entirely.Morris had told Album the key happiness is not buying new things to satisfy you, or owning more things so you could be above other people. We put our values in the wrong things and it leads us to having a delusional lives. You don't have to listen to the society in order to be happy. Morris reminds Album that you will always be in control of your own happiness, don't let the media delude you, don't let people around you deceive you with their rich social status. Social status or money earns you nowhere because in the end, we all die.Those two things cannot be a substitute for care and tender. Be clear that the quest of Album's life had changed and its elements include: family, friendship, home, love. He had tried to contact his cancer-fighter brother who left the family and flew to Spain for recovery. Even if his brother told him he doesn't want to talk, he still has a good faith within himself and did not regret contacting him at all. After spending plenty of Tuesdays with Morris, â€Å"Coming of age† to Album means to build a little community of those you love and who love you.

Section 1- Personal Statement and External Experience I was born and raised in Spain to British parents. After completing my Licentiate in Psychology with the University of Valencia in 2009 I moved to London. I also temporarily moved to Barcelona for my MSc in Clinical and Health Psychology. In my current post as a Life Skills Recovery Worker on Jade ward (acute ward at the Newham Centre for Mental Health) I work with and support the multidisciplinary team in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of mental and physical care. I facilitate therapeutic groups and engage with service users on a 1:1 basis. I also support service users to undertake activities designed to help them towards recovery and to regain independence and participate in recreational therapeutic activities in the community. I also form therapeutic and meaningful relationships with patients to enhance their care and improve their inpatient experience. I work regular bank shifts on the male intensive care ward (P.I.C.U.), elderly, triage and single sex and mixed acute wards. Both my current post and previous training has equipped me with practical experience of working in direct care provision with people with a wide range of mental health and psychological problems, including dual diagnosis and learning disabilities, and extensive experience of working with people with challenging behaviour. Answer: Introduction Human resource management deals with the management of human resources in a business organisation by performing functions, such as training and development, recruitment and selection, workforce planning, performance management, career development, etc. One of the most important functions that a human resource management of a business organisation performs is workforce planning and recruitment of candidates in order to the workforce demands identified in the workforce planning phase (Mondy and Mondy, 2014). In order to carry a recruitment process and to achieve good results, it is important that the human resource management of business organisations prepare job descriptions and job specifications (collectively known as job analysis) of all those openings that are required to be filled in an organisation. Job description is a written document that contains all the important information that is required to advertise for job openings and attract a sufficient pool of talent. Information, such as job title, job location, reporting to and of employees, summary of the job, nature of the job, tasks and duties to be performed by the recruited candidates, etc. all is mentioned under the job description section. On the other hand, job specification (also known as employee specification) is a written document that contains all the necessary information about the educational qualifications, qualities, experience, technical skills, etc. required to perform the job opening that is being advertised (Managementstudyguide.com, n.d.). Job Analysis for a Car Mechanic A car mechanic, or an automobile technician, is a person who is expert in dealing with automobile related issues. Efficient automobile technicians are in a great demand when it comes to the automobile industry as the automobile industry is on a constant lookout for technicians that are completely aware about the machinery used in different types of automobiles and those who have a complete knowledge of what they are doing. The job analysis for an automobile technician will comprise of preparing job description and job specification for the job opening. In order to conduct a job analysis or to prepare job description job specification, there are a number of techniques that a human resource manager can use. Some of these techniques are discussed below: Direct observation in this method, a human resource manager directly observes the employees who are already working on the same job post. Interview method in this method, a human resource manager can conduct an interview where the respondents are the employees who are working on the same job post Questionnaire method in this method, a human resource manager can prepare a questionnaire and can get it filled up from multiple employees working on the same job post Research in this method, a human resource manager can use various online and offline resources or existing data to conduct a job analysis (Managementstudyguide.com, n.d.). The job analysis for a car mechanic or an automobile technician has been conducted by using the interview and the research method, the details of which are mentioned in the human resource and non-human resource appendix. Job Description The job description for an automobile mechanic is given below: Requirement of a permanent automobile mechanic in the XYZ Motor Companys Virginia outlet The salary will range from $16/hour to $25/hour depending upon the capabilities of the candidates The working hours will be from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. while a lunch break of 30 minutes will be provided in the afternoon (the lunch will be provided to the employees by the company itself). Will be required to report directly to the head technician or the service manager of the workshop Communicate with the customers and gather feedback about the problems that they are facing with their vehicles Inspection of engines of vehicles and any other parts with which the customer reports an issue Diagnoses of the issues identified and resolve them in the best possible manner Conducting day-to-day maintenance of incoming vehicles, such as replacement of worn out spare parts, refilling of engine oil, engine coolant, washer fluids, lubrication, etc. Repair or replacement of broken or dysfunctional or damaged spare parts Providing estimates and costs to the customers, which will be inclusive of all the labour cost and the cost of the spare parts Testing vehicles for any major or minor faults and reporting about them to the customer Scheduling future services Maintenance of all machinery and equipment that will be required for carrying out the job operations Ensure delivery of vehicles within the time period specified before the commencement of service of the vehicle Ensure proper functioning of the vehicles (Monster Hiring Resource Center, n.d.) Maintain a record of all the spare parts repaired or replaced in a vehicle and also of all the operations that are carried out to ensure proper functioning of vehicles. Job Specifications The job specifications for an automobile mechanic are discussed below: Should have a minimum experience of 5 years while working as a mechanic in any automobile company or a workshop The candidate must be able to relocate to the facility where there is an opening in case he or she belongs to a different region Should possess a driving licence Should have fluency in the local language that the customers will use while communicating Should be able to fulfil the attendance requirements of the company and must not take unnecessarily leaves Should be willing to work in a complex environment and dealing with complex situations Should have a thorough knowledge about the key terms that are used in the profession Should have a detailed knowledge about the spare parts, fluids, nut bolts, networking, wiring, etc. that is used in a vehicle Should have an intellectual mind so that he or she can analyse the information that a vehicle owner shares with him or her Should possess excellent knowledge about the tools, equipment, machinery and the material that is used for the repair and maintenance of vehicles Should have complete knowledge of the working of vehicle machinery and should be able to identify the faults that a machinery is experiencing Should be aware of all the safety measures and precautions that an automobile mechanic must adhere to while working in a workshop Should have an excellent physical condition and should be active while at work Should be holder of a diploma, certificate from a vocational school or should have successfully completed an apprenticeship under an expert. Recrutiment The organisational strategy to which the company adheres is a Focus Cost Leadership Strategy. It is important that the organisation carriers out its recruitment process in accordance with its overall strategy. Thus, it would have to hire some of the best candidates who can ensure high quality of services to the clients even though the charges of the company are comparatively lower than its competitors. In general, there are two ways to carry out a recruitment process i.e. internal recruitment and external recruitment. In internal recruitment, human resource managers fulfil the human resource demands of their companies by hiring employees from within the organisation. Some common techniques in internal recruitment are prom otions, internal advertisements, temporary job rotations, hiring retired employees as freelancers, etc. On the other hand, an external recruitment process involves recruiting candidates from outside the organisation. Some common methods or techniques used in external recruitment are job portals, social media recruitment, websites, campus recruitments, employee referrals, etc. Some recruitment methods that can be used by the company to hire automobile technicians or car mechanic are discussed below: Job portals, an external recruitment method, can prove to be one of the best ways to recruit candidates for any kind of jobs. Thus, it is obvious that job portals will prove to be a good option for carrying out the process of recruitment. Job portals are online websites that enables candidates to create their respective accounts, upload resumes and share all their skills and techniques that an employer can review whenever there is an opening in an organisation. Employee referrals is one of the internal recruitment methods and has a number of advantages for business organisations. Using employee referrals, the company will be able to identify deserving candidates from the social network of their existing employees. To motivate the employees for putting up referrals, organisations can also offer them some kind of rewards or additional benefits. With a reward system is attached with the referral program, the existing employees will their best to bring in higher quality candidates so that they can meet the demands of the company and can also ensure a reward or an appreciation for themselves from the management. Also known as head hunters, recruitment agencies provide employers with the details of suitable candidates for a fixed amount of fees. In general, recruitment agencies specialize in certain areas of employment, such as nursing, teachers, financial services, etc. Recruiting through recruitment agencies will prove to be beneficial as it would be cheaper, faster and would help the company in selecting high quality candidates through expert assistance. The company can search for recruitment agencies, register themselves and can get in touch with these recruitment agencies whenever there is a job opening required to be fulfilled. Inducement The first inducement that would be helpful in catching the interest of the applicants right away would be the permanent job position. As we all know, job security is an important need of the candidates these days and they are better motivated when they know that their job is a secure one. Thus, the permanent nature of the job will catch their interest, would also help in fulfilment of organisational strategy as the employees will perform better and ultimately provide best customer services. The next inducement that would be beneficial in catching the interest of the applicants and in fulfilling the organisational strategy will be to provide them some relaxations, such as a lunch break and on duty meals along with a competitive wage.
